The healthy kind. Less sodium, rice noodles, veggies, no msg and piping hot.
When you write on Substack you make friends with folks from all over the world. Some are readers, most are other writersβthey tend to be the ones who HEART and COMMENT. An artist community. Theyβre a meal you have to nurture, baste and marinate. The recipe is genuine support and sometimes a tit for tat fact that no one wants to admit-- Iβll read yours if you read mine. Yes, we also have favorites that canβt be missed. Iβm guessing most of us subscribe to at least 152 Substacks and as much as we want to read them all itβs almost impossible. We have to get our own writing done. Or do we?
Meeting Substack Writers in Person
Monday night I had the pleasure/honor of meeting other Substackers. It wasnβt a meet up. We were celebrating fellow Substackers,
who is a talented, hilarious author (see my interview with her) and who also started her own publishing house, Empress Editions AND who hosted this fabulous gathering, the launch and tour of β sexy book, Quickies. The event was held at Lovestruck Books in Cambridge, MA and goody bags abounded. donated skin care from her company Phosis. (I took one for my daughter as there were extras! Iβm already using the products and loving them! So much talent on Substack!)Meeting my online Substack friends in person,
, , , and new friends, (Phosis) and solidified this fantastic community for me. (Bummed that couldnβt attend but hoping for a make-up meal.) You gals are Top Ramen (without the excessive sodium).
Insta-Friendsβ
Cup OβNoodles of buddies (but so much healthier). Just pour in a cup of hot water, (write a Substack) wait a few minutes, (get to know Subscribers online) stir (sign up for event) and ENJOY your new besties.
When you meet in person, after years (2.5) of chatting online, thereβs a connection and an understanding, whether your new bud writes personal essays, advice or recommendations the meal has a new delish flavor.
And of course, upon saying our Goodbyes, all of us were pitching Alisa book and Broadway musical ideasβat once. And she had a thoughtful response for each one. Ever gracious.
Have you met any Substack writers in person? Email? DM? What was it like for you?
