“that meaningful sermon completely went out the gullwing door “. I love your humor. I love Jewish humor especially. If you’ve not seen the documentary When Jews Were Funny. I highly recommend. Digs into the archives and goes back to some old time great comedian and you come away with a big appreciation of the Jewish contribution to being damn funny. Great article

After October 7th, I found myself going to the little Anglican church down the road where my hubby and I got married almost 37 years ago. I was craving the spiritual connection and the rituals of faith, and 'church'. It's so small and the congregation is mostly seniors. I fell out of practise during the summer, but I should wander back again. It was good for the soul.

How was the wedding? I've been thinking about you. Can hardly wait to hear.

The church sounds lovely.

The wedding was magical. I didn’t want the weekend of love to end. In Sicily now. Waiting for our 8pm dinner res. They eat way too late here. I’m like an 80 yo in a nursing home. Give me dinner by 5 and I’m happy.

😂 I’m right there with you. When we were in Spain in 2019 dinner was even later! We’d be biking all day and were famished at 5, but nothing even opened until 8pm. Talk about being “hangry!!”

Looking forward to hearing more about the weekend of love. ❤️ Safe travels.

Always fun. I especially like that you introduced us to your Mom and Dad in the recent weeks. You are so fortunate and blessed to have them at their ages and they both seem marvelous and engaged. Had no idea Torahs had to be hand-written. Wow. Now that is honoring tradition! Go away Johannes Gutenberg

I had to look up Johannes. So he’s the one!

Yes. I’m so glad my parents, step ma and step MIL are still enjoying life. 🥰🙏

We all face loss -- it is quite a win if we can get more time especially if we use it well. Glad the hint was fun and sent you looking. Remember those OLD Xerox commercials where the monks are transcribing old docs and along comes the Xerox machine??? Since Catholics are REAL GOOD at the guilt machine I would imagine errors were frowned upon also :)

Yes! I remember those ads. Brilliant.

I love that you FaceTime your Dad and that he’s also a great audience for your jokes. We have a comedian+comedy writer in my critique group and I’ve noticed how important timing/ sense of time is for her.

Gurrrrl, you were on a roll! I was giggling over here with the jokes:

Where do you get your inspiration from? When it comes to writing, everyday life.

Do you finish chewing before talking? I try to, yes. Just my luck, I'd choke.

Did you know that Mike Nesmith’s mom invented Liquid Paper (white out)? What?! Seriously?!

Did you know Mike Nesmith starred in the 60’s musical comedy TV show, The Monkees? Yes. I used to watch this show.

This was great fun and really interesting. And the Chabad sounds awesome! (Also, I did know that about Mike Nesmith’s mom. Wild, isn’t it?)

Hahahahaha!!!! This had me LOLing all the way through. I mean! “You bring your tuches1, we bring the Torah’ And I prefer your G-D, the one who smiles when we drop his/her book on the floor. 😂😂😂

Thx, Kimberly. Glad you got a chuckle. Definitely a joyous G- d with a sense of humor.

Your Chabad sounds wonderful. I appreciate you sharing and teaching us about the different places to worship (LA = yuck!) and the Torah (being a Sofer would also possibly be yucky but I'm guessing it's a huge honor to hold that role). It's very interesting (and wonderful) that each Chabad has their own mission statement.

Totally knew about Mike Nesmith as I loved the Monkees! I'm so glad you are able to make dad laugh. He's got such a serious, scholarly way about him and it's healthy to laugh. Treasure your relationship with him.

Of course Jews ran from Iran. Who wants to live in a country run by know-it-all I'd a' told ya's. But the Iranians are similar to Jews in that they complain about aches and pains. Hooo, my knee! I heard the Iranian Jews made a killing in the junk-yard business with their Persian car-pits. Take my wife...Please!

We have many words for complaining— oy vey, kvetch… 😂

Talk about rotfl. I was dancing in schul on Simchat Torah and my best friend, also American, and who like me didn’t know all the words to all the songs, snuck up behind me while we were dancing to “Mekimi, Mekimi, Mekimi, Mekimi, Mekim, Mekimi, meafar dal (raise me up from scant dust), and sang into my ear—killing me roughly while doing it: “My kidneys, my kidneys, my kidneys, my kidneys, my kidneys, my kidneys, my pancreas too.”

I got a lot out of this but the one thing I am jealous of is the fact you face time with your 90-year-old dad who by the way sounds like a character. My mom will be 95 in November, but she refuses to have anything tech in the house. The only thing she agreed on was a flip phone. We talk a lot on the phone, but face time would be a lot more fun.

Oh no. I usually catch dad when he’s already on the computer. It’s a Mac and attached to Julie’s phone. Some older folks don’t realize the joys of FT.
