“Now where did I put the crappy scissors?” — loved, and related to, that line! :)

I have been absent for a bit as I am nursing an eye infection. After squinting thru this a comment or two is in order. Just had old friends from Boston visit who met here. The perfect place does not exist but the people that count.

1. Shop at a nursery or garden center. No plastic and you might even transplant locals (see YouTube)

2. While at #1 buy some pruners

3. Cut them at angles with your pruners...more surface area, longer life

4. See #2

5. The secret to life for plants is pH. Buy a cheap meter and the secrets are revealed

6. See #2 & #4

7. See #2

8. See #5

9.Just choose the spot where most people waste a few minutes with Instagram

10. Don't forget the pH :)

11. Cull the herd. It's the only option if you buy into the reformed heroin addict RFK Jr & Anti-Vaxxers

12. Many years ago I bought my wife a planting table. It's energizing to extend a life. See #1 + YouTube -- cut flowers can be transplanted

13. Rotten eggs = hydrogen sulfide. The circle of life

Haha. #6 and #7 on repeat. By the time those stems are the perfect length, the water is a swampy mess and my scissors no longer cut even a block of cheese. 😂

Sorry to hear the transplant phase is a bit rough. Wishing you plenty of sun and hang time with that gorgeous family so your roots can begin to spread.

Here is an alternative to giving cut flowers as a birthday or anniversary gift. Get a birthday card and hang it around flowers growing in a public place. Then take your friend for a walk and surprise him/her with you living flower bouquet!

Such a solid extended (long stem?) metaphor here. Nicely done. Also, roots are good. But so is Spanish moss. ;)

I love having fresh flowers in the house and buy them almost every week.

Never thought about the plastic though. Ugh.

So, thanks for that 🤣🤣

I'm with you on this! I don't know much about commercial flower growing but I have a hunch it's not great for the environment and often we can find flowers at the supermarket of a shade that has never been seen in nature. I'm fortunate to have flower farmers where I live - real people who grow beautiful flowers on their regular farms and make bouquets to sell locally so I save my flower budget for subscriptions from them and go without in the winter.

Sending you love and good vibes as you get settled❤️

A flower farmer neighbor sounds ideal.

And yes. What is it with some flower colors that look photoshopped?

Thx. 🙏🥰

Right?! They are a feat of genetic modification or else some kind of bizarre spray paint.

My husband bought me an orchid plant for Valentine’s Day last year. It bloomed around Valentine’s Day this year, and the flowers are just now beginning to fade. Much better than cut flowers!

I love Orchids. One needs patience for the bloom to return.

The problem with cut flowers is that they're dead, which is sad. Potted plants are much more cheery.

You moved! I saw Apollo's reaction on Instagram. You're not a dead daisy, you've just been transplanted. Some good fertilizer, water, and sunshine, and you'll be fine. Welcome to the east coast!

Thank you so much! 🥰🙏

I have the solution, recently my wife went into a nursing home just before our 15th anniversary. I love roses. I grow roses so I bought her roses. I don’t have to mess with the stems. I don’t even have to mess with the vase. Somebody else gets that chore I just get the satisfaction of knowingfor a moment

or two my wife with severe Alzheimer’s was happy. Satisfaction.

I saw your post about Lure. My dad and step ma are in Camarillo. I buy them a gift card to Lure for almost all their celebrations! I love that place.

Now you’re making me cry, of course on May 22. I took Gloria to Lure, in Ventura. God has a marvelous way for his children to connect our memories, so beautiful that a stranger could reach out to touch my heart today.

Some of those drop seedlings. I know because I am one of them. You may have left WA state, but you left seedlings Carissa. We find ourselves referencing you or Hub’s in convo’s. You are implanted in our friendship memories. Miss and love you, z.

I can relate. My new boyfriend bought me 100 long stemmed roses. I couldn't bring myself to throw them away so I let them stink up my house. Then I tried watching a YouTube video on how to turn them into a dried roses wreath. I failed. I told him next time to buy me a pair of boots! 🤪Great post!

Ugh yes to all of this! My husband loves to bring me flowers from the market and I don’t have the heart to tell him that I wish he wouldn’t. The way my brain processes things, I don’t even see them on the counter and then a few days later I’m annoyed when I have to clean them up. Bring me a book, not flowers!
