My ex-husband is an amazing cook, and it was his love language, which now years after our divorce is one of things I miss most about being married to him. Both our sons love cooking. I enjoy it as well, but it's not quite the same to cook for yourself when you're single. However, I do what I can to make healthy, delicious meals for myself. One of the things on my wish list for a new relationship is a man that loves to cook. Having skills with a tools is a close second.
Very fun! A good marriage is all about finding your roles. At this point, my wife and I know who will do which job around the house. There’s no need to discuss. It just gets done.
Cooking and baking are my love language... so it's my favorite room in the house. But when life's busy, I'm more than happy with Dumpling House to bring us a HEAP of G-F Dim Sum. ❤️
Dine in! Even though I don’t love cooking I’ve grown into the “like” stage. Since we’ve downsized our kitchen, living, dining and bedroom are all on the same floor and kind of blend together as one big open space. All saving the ocean, so the view is my favourite from anywhere in the house.
I can do relate to the full garbage under the sink and the silent resistance as to when it’s too full and who’s going to take it out and put a new bag in. I was just pet peeving about this last night.
As empty nesters, my husband and I each make our own separate dinners. As we work side by side, we might glance at the other's entrees and decide how to combine menus. Tonight (and it is currently 7:30 PM) I am making for myself roasted cauliflower and brussel sprouts with pine nuts and sprinkled with bacon crumbs. I hear him in the kitchen at this very moment starting on his dinner, which may involve a hamburger. Not sure.
Hahaha!!! This is me and Dave to a T! Right down to “The garage is too cold.” That one really cracked me up. Glad you got your sacred space back, we need these so much, especially as we try to ground ourselves in the current climate. Hope your move went well!
My husband cooks when I tell him exactly what to make otherwise he'll open a can of salmon, plunk it on some salad and be done with dinner. Sometimes he goes big and makes veggie burgers. After thirty years this has become a little trying for me because I no longer like being the only cook. I chuckled when J told you how to cut the carrots🤣 That's kind of like you sitting down at his computer to tell him exactly what to do with some fancy tech idea! You two are a great inspiration to making it all work - how you talk about it and get a plan that works for both of you.
1. Dine in. 2. Much to my surprise, my favorite room turned out to be the kitchen too! And yes, the kitchen garbage bin is our marital DMZ, scene of perpetual simmering tension that could escalate at any moment.
Dine in, every day. I love the kitchen best, it's the most used room in the house. My hubby cooks dinner these days, I deal with breakfast and lunch for my fil and myself, along with the bread making. I was a mite resentful of losing my evening cooking rights at first, but my hubby really wants to do something nice for his dad and me, and he's a very good cook... plus it does make the end of the day a bit less harried... Caregiving duty doesn't end until my fil is tucked in, usually somewhere between 11 and midnight (he's a retired university professor and still keeps university hours 😅). It sounds like you and your hubby are dealing well with compromise. 😊
Being happily annoyed is such a thing. Great call out.
Right? Appreciatively annoyed too. Hehe. Thx for reading and commenting!
Dine in or Take out? - Take out. Specifically Flower Child. I definitely need to start dining in, but I really hate meal prepping.
Do you have a favorite room in your home? - My bed, since that's where I read and watch movies. LOL
I love this so much! And yes, we set the couch every night, too. Perks of being empty nesters.
Haha. Go Pam and Bill! Miss you!😘
Dine out - for breakfast or lunch.
The dining room - because it is always beautifully tidy, mostly because we never use it.
🥰❤️🙏
Yesss enjoy!!! 😀👍

When you write it down it will come?
Go mama. You raised your boys knowing the difference between a colander and a calendar. Hehe.

A good marriage means giving each other the silent treatment— getting the job done.

Yum. I miss dumplings.

I love your view!
Garbage seems to be the bain of every marriage.

So nice that you accept your different palates and enjoy your own meal. A combo of hamburger and cauliflower sounds delish.

Did I shine a mirror? Hehe.
Still packing.
Thx, sweetie.
Enjoyed this very much
Thx, David. 🙏🏼

Canned salmon. Haha. Frozen veggie burgers or homemade?
Love your carrot analogy. Hehe.
Thx, Donna. 🥰🙏

Hehe. Why do we get stubborn about pulling out that full bag?
31+ years, and I still have no idea!
Love this story. The kitchen is certainly the heart of the home!
❤️❤️

Marriage and caregiving for an in-law— another standing ovation. Plus your farm animals! Lots of feeding.
Sounds like you’ve got it all worked out.
Any chance you make sourdough? That’s the only gluten I can eat.
Every week. It's my fil's favorite. 🤗
Do you offer lessons?
