This: "Consuming humor definitely helps me write my own humor." 100%

Nice to meet you, Julie. I follow you, but it's always nice to get a proper intro and some background. Cheers.

It's funny who America thinks it's funny. I remember Bill Cosby, Seinfeld, Carrot Top , George Carlin, and recently, Kevin Hart, where they all had runs, and everyone thought they were unbelievably funny. You expected them to make you laugh. Now I can pretty much count on CK Steefel to make me laugh! I do regularly play a game that could help everyone learn about humor. I have Cirus radio in my car and sometimes I'll turn on the comedy channel and I say " I have to listen to it until they make me laugh " - but I refuse to laugh. I fight laughing and it's always fun to see which comedian can finally make me laugh that day. Then I don't want to turn the channel. But I have to turn off the channel when I laugh. That's one of the games rules too. But sometimes since I have invited the game I will consult with the judges and will stretch the rules to allow 5 more minutes of listening.

That is a good sign if they are making you laugh when you are actively avoiding it!

Your a human laugh meter!

You have to turn off the channel when they make you laugh? I don't get it.

I'm so honored I can make you laugh!

Ah, where the tired things are. Does that just describe us all at some point? I used to think of that as old clothes in my closet....definitely tired things....but as I age, I fit that description too....maybe I'm just an old rag.

I love it... "Where the Tired Things Are: A Sleep-Inducing Picture Book for Grown-Ass Adults!" I can see it on the bestseller list now... Calm could publish it and put one in every hotel room on the planet :)

Haha, 'Where the tired things are'! I love that.

Thanks CK and Julie for this great interview. I look forward to reading your piece about feeding children being like working in fine dining. I have done both and they both had their challenges with the difference being that one of those things had a specific end of shift!

The end of shift thing is key! I remember both my OB and my kid's pediatrician saying the newborn phase was harder than their residencies for the same reason -- there was at least a shift end in the residency!

Ha!!! Where the tired things are 😂😂 The real version of that book was my favorite childhood book so that jumped out at me right away.

Also loved that her tweet landed in the paper. I felt the same way she did about parenting in that clip 😁😁

I'm just realizing that title and the tweet are maybe conveying similar sentiments 😂.

Thanks so much for having me! I am trying to work on another book and I made the mistake of telling my kids the jackelope wasn't real too early so I was not able to convince them (also I am extremely bad at lying).

Can you talk about your next book or not yet?

I have a proposal for a parenting humor book for outdoorsy parents that is out on submission but I'm trying to get started on a new book project (but haven't quite gotten there yet!). I kind of want to try a novel but still figuring out things like format and plot (minor details, ha!)

Love the one you’re shopping. I co authored a humor gift book years ago. Parents definitely need to laugh.
