That was always the hardest part of writing a funny card—you have to bring it around somehow to make someone want to send it. It’s gotta land on an occasion. And that, I don’t have to do anymore. So it’s just the Wild West in my head at this point. 2. The short answer is, I went to their web site and downloaded a workbook of writing and editing exercises and mailed it in. (Although of a few of my former co-workers were hired after answering an ad in Rolling Stone!) No, but I do have tons of samples of the cards I wrote, so I like to pull one of those out, and especially if it makes no sense. I just added a zero to a “You’re 4!” card and gave it to a friend for her 40th. Maybe that counts as homemade?!
