Last week I was accused of a "shameless but generous plug" and I'm going to do it again. Alisa is often the "who" in what makes me laugh. The "what" is surprise. I do think the human brain likes to be caught off guard and presented with something novel (to a degree). There seems to be a number of ways to do this. Many of them were in the list of possible answers to the question - "what kind of funny are you?"
What I appreciate most about Alisa is how she lives her day to day. It's nice to have days when I think I might just be a bit better at being a decent, caring, person (maybe just a tad) because of something she did (AI to help with a Byzantine immigration system?) or her drive to help recognize and expand/improve the world for people with neurological challenges and The Empress Empire - not just a website that hasn't been updated in 6 mos.
So much energy, such a brilliant - if not a bit glitchy at times - mind (but even that gets turned into an opportunity because if it isn't an opportunity then what is it? So much electricity and humanity in such a tiny package. Who says we haven't discovered fusion yet!
“Though I did almost give birth in Joan Rivers’ living room and I remember trying to make that funny. I told her “Look, I’m centimeters dilated here, it’s like walking around New York with your purse open... “
I can’t stop laughing, I am crying. I just
subscribed.
When I go back to work, it’s taking a while I had to rewrite my résumé three times. I was told by recruiters that employers don’t like applicants that are smarter than they are…
Great interview. Things that are inappropriate make me laugh. So thinking about the most inappropriate thing to say in any situation is a silent pleasure of mine. So of course the humor of Curb (when it's not a retread of the same meme).
I find that the funniest reading experiences I have are when I read a book a second or third time. Then the humor comes out. Proust is like that.
I'm curious about which stand-ups Alisa and you favor. Jim Gaffigan is my current favorite.
I dated someone last year who said, completely without expression, “That’s funny.” She had been talking about her ex-wife and complaining that everything was codified and boring. She may have been referencing boring sex.
Ever the salesperson, I said., “ I’m an artist. I can’t even pour a glass of water the same way twice.”
No laugh. And again, no laugh.
I find dating the wrong people funny. Probably why I keep doing it.
I read usually Alisa's posts when I'm eating lunch, and they've made me laugh so hard that I've snorted water outta my nose. She's whip-smart, whcih is something you could miss because she's so damn funny!
Omg what a fun interview! Such original questions and of course Alisa’s responses are laugh-out-loud memorable. I have a hunch her crazy great Aunt Madeline would be very proud.:)
And this is why I subscribe to Alisa's 'stack. But the pool cue thing... seriously, how is that possible? I didn't think the cue was that sharp on the end! That's, like, a total Jason Statham move. And how is that they didn't wake you guys up to let you know what happened? I'd be yelling the house down, drunk or not. LOL
Thanks Carissa and Alisa. Hearing about the Uber ride to the studio and being thrust onstage at the last second both pulled at my heartstrings and made me marvel how we often need our controlling self to be silenced by pressure (or exhaustion) in order for our best, highest self to show up. This was a great reminder to shut up and let her out. A great interveiw!
You hit it out of the park. 🥰
OMG that cue story! Just wonderful. And AKJ I am feeling very admiring of how tough you are!
If I want to make someone laugh I must not even think of laughing.

Wonderful kvelling. Agree.

It’s a classic joke. For the history books.

I love Gaffigan too. Great question for Alisa.
I am a huge fan of Alisa’s and even more so now! Thank you for this fabulous pairing, CK!
Thx, Shelly.

That’s a great way to test someone’s sense of humor. 🥰

Thank you, again Carissa for having me be part of FAF--so honored and so much fun!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thx for being here! Some folks have questions for you if you have time to respond.
Ok I'll bite. It went right through him!
He MUST have been drinking! 😂
Thanks for the smile.
What makes you laugh? -- Absurdity
How do you prioritize your writing projects? --Go big
When do you have time to read a novel? (As evidenced in your recent post.) --I find the time when I find the novel. Time isn't the problem : )

So true!
