Maybe we all want what we don't have. My hair is dead straight (or it was until I started greying) and I always wanted it to curl. I used to perm it in the last 80s and early 90s to get hair rather like yours.
Hair is so fascinating. I'm sure there have been volumes written about it and this article is fantastic! There are a few fortunate unicorns who don't really care about their hair but I am not one of them. I was one of those who paid massive dollars to get your exact look back in the 80's and I loved it! I know that's easy to say when it wasn't a lifelong battle but a temporary choice.
My hair story was as a child I had my hair cut very short (similar to now, ha!), I had very bad teeth that resembled a vampire, and I absolutely looked like a boy. So, although I had quite nice hair, it was lost in the overall bad look.
I love the images you posted and will be watching you on Seinfeld as we are re-watching the series!
I always loved your curls. I think that if we knew how to tame our curls when we were growing up, we would’ve loved them. In my 20’s I couldn’t go 100% curly so I’d blow dry my bangs. I didn’t love my curls until I met Rich, who loves my curls. Now I wouldn’t be “me” without them!
I have Harry Potter hair, that tends to do whatever it wants. The texture is very fine, like a baby's. When I worked as a nursing aide, my charges were always trying to help me get it under control. 😂 I keep it in a tight braid these days, otherwise it just flies wherever it wants, making me look like I've been through a windstorm. On the plus side, it's greying very slowly, just a bit on the temples so far, but I'm 62, so it's time for the grey... though my Dad died with a full head of dark hair (with a bit of grey at the temples) at 70, so who knows?
Thank you so much for reading and commenting. Graying slowly has been a gift for me too. When you were a nurse aid did you have to wear the netted cap?
No, I just had to keep it short or in a bun - I'm not good at hair styling, so I ended up getting a hair cut. My job involved helping folks get washed and dressed, serving food (and feeding, if necessary), and assistance with toileting, so the hair wasn't an issue, really. I just used a lot of barrettes to try to keep it under control, but wisps always escaped. My son worked in food services and had to wear a hair net on his BEARD! He's one of the cute bald guys in my life, so he didn't have to worry about the top of his head, at least.
What a hilarious hair story! Makes me feel better about my life battling Zzirf. The amazing thing to me is that even though it's thinned a bit with age, it still has an incredible ability to stand up on its own little hairy legs and give my head a lovely wedge shape.
What an awesome trip. I think self-awareness is one of G-d's challenges for us when we are young. This story had a GREAT arc. We are all along for the ride through childhood and then you spring your striking headshot and the mortals realize things really worked out just great for you. The picture with your husband is great! Keratin is magic and natural. Did you and your husband gift your hair to any of your children and did you withhold the mousse as a rite of youth???
Thx so much for reading and commenting. My kids have a bit of the frizz but not to the extent that I had. Both kids are natural blondes and my daughters hair is long, thick and luxurious. Thank G-d. Hehehe.
My Dad had thick, extremely wavy, curly hair his whole life. My Mom had fine Eastern European hair (Polish). All these genetic gifts from our folks come with two edges. My Dad was starting to gray in his late 30s. Of my bros, I got the very curly mane and mine forestalled gray the longest but the pivot is well underway. One of my bros, whenever I see him, I expect his to revert to a darker color -- eventually it will be bowling ball colored if the current trend continues.
I wonder if you have a Jewish ancestor. The fro has made its way like a creeping vine over hundreds of years and landed on our heads. Obviously a dominant gene.
Genetics and genealogy is one of my FAVORITE topics and hobbies. My Mom's family ended up in a border region between modern Ukraine and Poland and it certainly had a large Jewish population especially by the middle of the 1800s. About 8 years ago we traveled to the area not knowing much about my Mom's ancestors. Now I have another idea to explore!
I'm sort of into the topic but always eager to learn more. My Mom's maternal line mitochondrial DNA is how we discovered the originating homeland. Because of occupation between Russian & Germany, refugees from Poland and Ukraine have very spotty records :( -- So cool what you discover on the comments!!
I used to have stick straight hair. Then, somewhere in my late teens-early 20s, it started to wave then curl. There is no controlling it. I just let it do its thing. The curl loses its oomph when it's dry weather. But, when humidity hits, I go full triangle, and I'm not happy. Your curls are beautiful, Carissa. xo
I have zzirf 2.0 new and improved. The difference is gravity has an impact :) I loved your curly hair, and straight --beautiful no matter what !
Thx sweetie. ❤️🥰
1. I’m fine with the callback.
2. I should. By the time a cold’s bad enough for it, I’m usually one with the bed.
3. I have a generic New York black fade, so every day is the same. I’d grow it out, but nature is nudging me to baldness. So it goes.
Bald is sexy. Very underestimated.
I may have a new Hinge strategy.
Need a pic.

So true— wanting what we don’t have. Thx so much for reading and commenting.

Thx for reading and commenting! I love the description of you as a kid. ❤️
Great story. I had poker straight very thin hair. And I wanted Cher hair too!
Permed it all the time in the early 80’s.
Love the throwback pics. You are beautiful!
Thx for reading and commenting! And kind compliment. Cher had amazing hair.

Thx so much for reading and commenting. Glad I can entertain. Sounds like you relate. Respect the wedge. 👊

Did you ever check your ancestry? Don’t do Ancestry or 23 and me. They do a basic.

My hair is extremely easy: I’m bald 😎😎
Bald is beautiful! (wife and mother of bald men) 😊
Bald can be very sexy.
